The History of Chinese Gambling Concern Incorporated

In the year 1996, a group of enthusiastic and compassionate professional counsellors and social workers observed the adverse impact of gambling on the Victorian community and in particular, the Ethnic Chinese Community. These professionals decided to come together to form the social group “Chinese Gambling Concern Action Group”. The vision of this group was to raise the awareness in the community about the potential harm that gambling might have on the individuals, families as well as the community. Services such as early intervention for harmful gambling was provided to those in need. The group also helped and encouraged the community to seek professional advice and assistance once the incidence of harmful gambling was suspected or identified.  In the year 2000, the committee of the “Chinese Gambling Concern Action Group” transformed the group into an incorporated association under the current name “Chinese Gambling Concern Inc. (CGCI)”.

CGCI is a non-profit organisation and the objective of CGCI is to educate and raise awareness about the potential risks and harms that are associated with and/or arising from gambling within the Chinese Community in Victoria, Australia. CGCI also strives to minimize gambling-related harms among the Chinese community and to provide support to those who are negatively affected by gambling, including gambling addicts and their family members and friends. The achievement of CGCI is widely recognised by both the community and the government.
